Steven was so proud to be an organ donor that he would point out the small red heart on his driver’s license whenever the topic came up. After suffering three cardiac arrests, he was ultimately able to do what he had always intended when he first registered — leave a lasting legacy.
Steven met his fiancée, Vanessa, in middle school. From that moment on, they were inseparable, truly each other’s person. In the midst of unimaginable grief, Vanessa found solace in knowing that Steven’s life was honored through the lives he saved.
“I saw firsthand what organ donation really means,” Vanessa said.
“It gives someone else more time, more memories, more ordinary dinners around the table with their kids. Steven gave that to four families, and they gave me something back too: proof that my fiancé’s life meant something beyond the years he had.”
