How my daughter, Jamie Lyn, saved 37 lives

The moment I got in my car, I asked God to keep her alive until I make the drive from Virginia to the hospital in Fort Lauderdale. And to keep me driving safe. That’s what a father does. You move. You pray. You keep going.

I’m a retired Marine. I deployed after 9/11. I remained committed to serving our country and training service members. I kept my flak jacket on because that’s what the job demands. You don’t stop. You complete the mission.

My youngest daughter, Jamie Lyn, was the same way. People called her my twin and the girl version of me; she had my stubbornness and my fire. But she was more than that. She made everyone around her better, whether they asked for help or not. After moving to Fort Myers, Jamie Lyn had her whole life in front of her, and dreams she wanted to chase.
