Stories of Hope

Davion Smith

Donor

Davion Smith was both kind and adventurous, and at 13 years old, already a gifted athlete involved in football, basketball, track and wrestling. He was just two days from starting eighth grade when he passed away. Davion’s mother, Charita Johnson, made the decision to allow Davion to become an organ donor.

Charita said, “I felt that Davion would want to be an organ donor because he was a giver at heart. I believe if he had lived long enough to make the choice on his own, he would have wanted to give the gift of life.”

Davion saved the lives of three people through donation, and Charita is now an advocate for others to recognize the importance of organ, tissue and eye donation. “Through donation, you live on by giving someone else life.”
